SA to help DRC eradicate polio
The minister of health Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang was in the Democratic Republic of Congo on friday to hand over 1 million polio vaccines to assist that country in its efforts to eliminate the disease. South Africa wants to make SADC a polio free region by the end of next year. The department of health says its polio vaccination campaing inside the country has been a success and to ensure that children within the country remain free of polio, it has to make sure that its neighbours achieve similar success as polio is a transportable disease.
