The WHO-AFRO intercountry Mid-level Management course for Anglophone countries was held in Pretoria, South Africa. The training was organised by the University of Limpopo - Medunsa Campus and WHO-AFRO.

General objective

The objective was to train academics and those involved in the in-service training of health care professionals, as well as EPI managers to manage immunisation services within the context of GIVS, the 2006-2009 EPI Regional Strategic Plan and  the RED strategy.

Specific objectives

  1. To explain immunisation systems, GIVS,  the Regional  Strategic Plan 2006-2009 and the RED strategy
  2. To identify  the managers role in the EPI core processes within the context of  health sector reforms and GIVS
  3. To use the problem solving approach when managing immunisation services
  4. To communicate/to advocate more effectively for EPI
  5. To develop sustainable  strategic and operational plans or revise them in line with GIVS
  6. To increase immunisation coverage
  7. To manage  financial resources, including resource mobilisation
  8. To manage vaccines
  9. To manage cold chain
  10. To ensure immunisation safety
  11. To manage new vaccines introduction
  12. To manage integrated disease surveillance
  13. To organize more effectively the supplemental immunisation activities
  14. To monitor/supervise/evaluate EPI services and activities.
